Introduction to Child LaborA child sits in a Connecticut middle school ready to learn. However, on the other side of the world, a person of the same age works hard in a factory longing for a break. Child labor is a global issue that keeps nearly 168 million kids trapped in factories. Children ages 5- 16 are being forced to work in factories, farms, stores, and mines. The conditions in which these children are working are unsafe and can lead to great danger. Across the globe, children are forced to make clothes, toys, accessories, matches, and a variety of other objects, as well. Instead of going to school to learn, the children are required to work. If you were a parent of one of these children, would you feel safe having your child going to work for several hours a day? How are the children supposed to thrive in life if they have no access to education, if they are being exposed to fumes every day, and are at risk of dying from serious injuries as a result of factory work?
